Hello friends! It’s been a minute since I wrote on this page, but I wanted to briefly share with you my experience trying out Derma-E skincare products. I am a part of an influencer platform called ApexDrop, and I was selected to be a part of this Derma-E anti-aging and anti-wrinkle campaign.
First off- I am OBSESSED. The products are perfect for my sensitive skin, and don’t have much of a scent, which I love. I don’t like using overly fragranced products- they tend to make my skin red and irritated. But Derma-E is vegan, cruelty-free, and their products are proving to truly do wonders for my skin.
I may only be 23 years old, but I don’t think it’s ever too early to use anti-aging/anti-wrinkle skincare. I think of it as preventative rather than restorative! My skin will thank me later in life; I just know it.
I am so grateful that they were generous and sent me over five full sized products. The first was an Anti-Wrinkle Cleanser. It is gentle, yet exfoliating. Plus, it’s sulfate-free which helps to reduce the appearance of fine-lines and wrinkles. I am a very facially expressive gal so this is great, help me prevent those smile lines! It leaves me feeling energized, invigorated, and deeply-clean.
They also sent one Anti-Aging Regenerative Day Cream and one Anti-Aging Regenerative Night Cream. Let’s begin with the day cream. It is lightweight- which is already a win in my book. I hate thick, greasy moisturizers and this is just the opposite. Truly a dream if you ask me. It helps to deeply moisturize and minimize the appearance of visible aging. One of the main benefits is that it rejuvenates mature skin, which is always a nice thing.
As for the night cream, it is a high-potency vitamin A cream that helps to richly refine and perfect your skin’s appearance while you sleep. I honestly have noticed a difference- my skin feels more firm upon waking up in the morning which is awesome!
Next was an Anti-Aging Regenerative Serum. It gently exfoliates the skin to help diminish the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and dull skin. It is supposed to help fight signs of premature aging. I am just starting to use this product in particular, but what really stood out to me is that it is not sticky at all, unlike other serums I have tried in the past.
All in all, my babies: I really, honestly love these products and do think I will purchase them on my own once I run out of this set! I love what this brand stands for, and my skin is reaping the benefits. 10/10 reccommend. I recently saw a tweet that said something along the lines of “If you met me between the years 2015-2018, allow me to re-introduce myself.” and BOY did that resonate with me. I graduated high school in 2015, and now here I am, four years later, two semesters away (hopefully) from graduating UCF with a B.A. in advertising & public relations. If you told 18 year old Colleen back in 2015 that she would go through a serious period of self growth in the next few years, she would have shrugged and not believed it. But here I am today to reflect on a couple of things (negative & positive) that helped shape me to be the young woman I am today, and I am proud of it.
I will go ahead and let you know right now- this isn’t going to be a blog post full of pretty pictures… it will be rather wordy so prepare for that haha. But here, I’ll go ahead and humor you really quickly. In 2015 I had short black hair and now I have blonde hair. Talk about a transformation. “It’s not a phase, mom.” NO. It definitely was, and that’s completely okay.
Alright, so here we go: I am going to list off a couple of things that really helped me grow as a person.
Number One: I have mentioned this in a previous blog post, but being single most of my college experience has been one of the best things for me. I graduated high school and was in a wonderful relationship, but when it came time for college, things got tough and we broke up. I was heartbroken for the longest time, and was in another relationship after that, but that one didn’t work either. I grew up thinking I had to be in a relationship all the time (for some stupid reason) but honestly taking a break from relationships and dating has been such a healthy experience for me. I have learned so much about myself which sounds SUPER corny but hear me out. Having this time to focus on myself and my goals has been so beneficial to me. I feel like I am really getting my shit together (pardon my French) and when the time comes along for me to be in a relationship again, what’s meant to be will be. I just know I am fine with or without a significant other.
Number Two: CUT TOXIC PEOPLE OUT. Seriously! I have had so many people come in and out of my life which is natural. But some people are meant to be out of your life with good reason. I have had several friendships end, which is fine and honestly normal for things to fade out sometimes. But if you stopped associating with someone in your real life, it might be a good idea stop associating with them in the digital world as well. I have had issues with girls “sub-tweeting” me about the dumbest things and I realized “You know what? I don’t need to keep seeing this negativity. BLOCKED.” People hate to see you happy and successful, but those are the people that really don’t matter, and they can go bring their sour attitude somewhere else. Bye bye! You are better off without them.
Number Three: Have confidence in yourself. There is only one YOU so embrace that ‘ish. Be unapologetic-ally yourself, babe.
Number Four: Treat your body with respect. Fuel it with healthy things. I danced for most of my life until I graduated high school. That kept me in amazing shape, and back then I could eat whatever I wanted to without having to worry about weight gain. I would burn thousands of calories a day. Now, not so much. I try to stay on top of things as best as I can though! When I first started college, I kept eating whatever, whenever- but I wasn’t nearly as active as I was when I was dancing 5 days a week. Now I try to be more conscious of what I put into my body, and hit the gym as often as I can.
Number Five & Six: Be persistent and do not be afraid to take risks. Stepping out of your comfort zone can really help you grow as a person- I know it helped me. A year ago I had no idea where I would be today. But I was 1 of 50 students admitted into my limited access major at UCF, I got the opportunity to travel out of state twice with my first internship, and now I am interning at one of my dream locations. If I didn’t shoot my shot and apply for all of these things, I would be in a different place right now. I am in the right place now, and I am so grateful. Taking risks and making change can be scary, but so worth it. You got this! To quote momager Kris Jenner: You’re doing amazing, sweetie.
Now these are just a couple of things that have helped me with self-love/growth. I am still working to improve myself everyday. Let me know what your journey with self growth has been, I want to know!
Hey friends! It’s ya girl, Colleen. So it’s been a minute since I published my first blog post. I initially thought that I would write bi-weekly… I already broke that commitment. Whoops. My first post was actually published on April 1st (April Fools Day) so maybe I was just pulling a prank on myself? No but really, life has been pretty stressful for the last month or so. Life is really treating me well, that’s not what I am saying. I have so so much to be grateful for, and I am- BUT that doesn’t mean that I am not like every other college student in the sense that finals season can be one of the most (seemingly) chaotic times of the academic year. That being said, I have curated a small list for you all to share some of the things that make me super smiley and distract me from the school stress. (p.s: it’s officially summer for me for a couple of weeks, woo!)
So here we go, here are 8 Things That Make Me Happy As Can Be (in no particular order):
Let’s do this thing, shall we?
Number 1: Having a date with myself. What does this mean, you might ask? I, for one, LOVE to spend time alone. Don’t get me wrong, I love spending time with my friends and family- but there is something so special about having a day to yourself. Today even as I started brainstorming this post, I took myself on a lunch date. I went to Barnie’s Coffee & Tea in Winter Park, Florida and treated myself to a delicious Cobb salad and iced vanilla latte. Simple stuff, but fantastic stuff at that.
Number 2: Reading for pleasure. Again, another very simple thing (I am not hard to please, haha.) I just got through with final exams at UCF and lemme tell you- it feels SO good to be able to read something other than a mass communication law textbook or case studies online. I personally love to read blogs, fashion/lifestyle magazines, or a good novel when I get the chance. It is so relaxing and refreshing to be able to just sit down and not think about anything else except what you’re reading.
Number 3: Buying myself some fresh blooms. Who says you need a significant other to buy you fresh flowers? I love to go to either The Fresh Market or Whole Foods and pick myself up a beautiful bunch every once in a while. I just love to have a vase filled with flowers in my room, it adds to much to the aesthetic value of it all (*eye rolls at myself for saying that*). Walking in my room and having a nice pop of color and a floral scent greet me is one of the little things in life that I really do treasure.
Number 4: Discovering new “chill” spots around town. I love to go out and explore Central Florida and all of its treasures. I particularly enjoy stumbling upon new coffee & tea shops. Whether I am going out seeking a new spot to get homework done, work on the blog, or hang out and catch up with a friend, I feel like coffee shops have the best vibes, and finding a new one (or at least one that is new to me) is so fun.
Number 5: Skincare & other beauty products. I have recently become obsessed with skincare (there are much worse things I could be obsessed with, so I am glad it is something that actually benefits me). I love to try out new products, whether it be an exfoliating scrub or a new daily moisturizer with SPF. It is just something that I find enjoyable and also makes me feel good about myself. One of these days I might post about some of my “holy grail” products, but we will save that for another day.
Number 6: Brunch. I am a complete sucker for a good brunch. I know I have mentioned this before, but I am actually in love with it. Brunch food is my kryptonite. This is SO basic, I know. Hush.
Number 7: Sushi. My favorite food. OF ALL TIME. Can you tell I’m excited about this one? Anytime I eat sushi, I am guaranteed to be a happy gal. Also, as I am writing this, I am realizing how many of these points are food related. No shame.
Number 8: Taking my camera out and trying my hand at photography. Now I am no expert photographer by ANY means. I just really enjoy taking my camera out with me every once in a while and dabbling in mostly nature photography. I need to do this more, I think it is so fulfilling.
Now of course, those are not the ONLY things that make me happy. They are just some of my top favorites at the moment. This was fun, writing this out. I am excited because now that it is summer and I will not have any classes until the end of June, I will have a bit more time to dedicate to writing on here. I am not going to hold myself to a set schedule, I am going to write when I feel inspired, when I actually have content that I am ready to share with you all, and that will make each post more worth the read. Well first thing is first: if you don’t already know me, my name is Colleen McCaffrey. I am twenty-two years old and I am an undergraduate student at the University of Central Florida, studying a combined major of advertising and public relations. I read so many lifestyle & fashion focused columns + follow so many bloggers on social media, and must say- I have been pretty inspired as of late. I always think “hmm, it would be so cool to start a blog of my own” but I have never just sat down and committed to writing something out. But i have journals full of ideas and I finally am here to say: Let’s do this. I’ll tell you more about myself throughout my posts, but yeah- hello! This is my simple introduction. Also, a quick shout-out to my lovely gal pal, Jayleen Fajardo (@pdf.jay) for the photo below.
Okay, so now onto the subject of the matter: 22 things I have figured out (for the most part) at 22 years old:
Number 1: Not everyone is going to like you- and that is A-OK. This is something I have struggled with for a long time. I have always been a “people pleaser” and been too concerned with what others opinions of me are. Don’t get too caught up in what people think about you- as long as you are happy with yourself, everything is gonna be just peachy, my friend.
Number 2: There is no wrong time for brunch food. ‘Nuff said.
Number 3: Work hard, play hard. As cliche as that may sound- it is so true! Nothing feels better than working super hard and having that work pay off. Get your stuff done and then go on and have some fun. Try to have fun along the way though- life is too short.
Number 4: Stop apologizing for things that don’t solicit an apology. I was literally the girl where if someone pushed me into a wall or something, I would apologize. Which makes NO SENSE to do.
Number 5: Letting something go usually leads to gaining something in return.
Number 6: Be true to yourself. I know it’s corny. But for real- do it.
Number 7: You’re never too old to stop someone and ask to pet their dog. C’mon.
Number 8: You know how earlier I mentioned how there is no wrong time for brunch food? Same thing with coffee. (Although, if you plan on getting a decent amount of sleep, I suggest you cut off your caffeine intake 3 to 4 hours before you plan on hittin’ the sheets.)
Number 9: You do NOT have to be in a relationship to be happy. The past few years I have been single- yes, I’ve been on a few dates here and there and they were fun, sure. But I have honestly learned so much about myself whilst being single. Don’t get me wrong- I love being a girlfriend and sharing love with another person, but being independent and single throughout the majority of college has taught me so much. And lately I have been the happiest I have been in a LONG time. One of these days though the right guy will come along, but until then I am perfectly content with life.
Number 10: Accept your past with no regrets, handle your present with confidence, and face your future with no fear. (Still working on this one.)
Number 11: Wheat grass shots are NASTY. I could never be a health guru. I took one for the first time a week ago or so and let’s just say I never feel compelled to do that again.
Number 12: Treat yo’ self. Buy that pair of shoes you’ve been dying to get your hands on. Get yourself a bottle of moscato and some sushi and have yourself a darn good time. You work hard and you deserve it.
Number 13: You really will meet some of your best friends in your twenties. I have met so many people in the past couple of years, and I am so grateful they’re in my life.
Number 14: Blocking negative people on social media is good for your mental health. Don’t feel guilty about it. Your mental health is so important.
Number 15: Saying no means you know your limits.
Number 16: The true mark of maturity is when somebody hurts you and you try to understand their situation instead of trying to hurt them back.
Number 17: It’s okay to be an old soul. I realized how much I love to stay at home and watch Netflix in bed while everyone else is out partying. You know what? That is perfectly okay.
Number 18: It’s okay to have a routine. I get the appeal of being wild and spontaneous, but having a regular routine to follow is not a bad thing. Do what works best for YOU.
Number 19: Be wise with your money. Yes, we are young. Yes, spending money is fun. But budgeting is so helpful and smart. Save money, break impulsive spending habits. Buy what makes you happy, but things that will continue to do so down the road.
Number 20: You’re paying for a gym membership. Use it. Dang it.
Number 21: Take time out of each day for yourself. Sit outside in the morning while your drink your coffee while it’s nice and quiet. Go for a walk. Take a bubble bath. Anything you can do to have some quality alone time.
And finally, Number 22: Be nice to people. The simplest thing on here, but one of the most important. You never know what someone is going through, the least you can do is be nice. It’ll get you far.
So that’s about it, my friends. This was really fun. I can tell I’m gonna enjoy this whole blog thing. I am going to try to post bi-weekly, permitting I am not drowning in schoolwork at the time. I am going to post more lifestyle things, as well as fashion, beauty, maybe food? Who knows. You’ll just have to stay tuned until next time, my dears.
